In addition to establishing goals for competition, your child can also establish and monitor goals for practices. This will help them stay committed on track. Obviously, the type of goals your child aims for will depend on his age.
A 5 or 6-year-old’s goal may simply be to have fun, make friends or learn to run faster. As children get older, their goals can be more specific and ambitious. Goals can be set based on the following areas:
1. Performance goals – Your athlete should establish these to help him strive for success and to improve their performance.
2. Practice goals – Your athlete should establish theses to focus on what they want to achieve during practice time.
3. Mental game goals – Your child or teen should set these goals about his confidence, focus, trust, composure or preshot routine.
