Anything in life can become too complex. Take computers for example. Most of us use them every day, but we really do not know how they work inside the box. Your athlete’ sports performance is no different. If learning a new backhand or beam routine becomes too complex for the student, nothing gets accomplished. We can say the same for the mental game.
Have you heard the saying “paralysis by over analysis?” When athletes make their performance too complicated by over-thinking or over-analyzing, their bodies will not respond. Mental training should not be complex for athletes. You must keep it simple for athletes to understand by not using psychobabble or complex terms from psychology that athletes do not understand.
