Most young athletes often lack confidence for three reasons: (1) They do not know how to improve–other than with more practice. This is very common for young athlete. (2) They have a fragile state of confidence; their confidence changes rapidly when they are not successful of lose. (3) They had a difficult experience or past failures that hurt their confidence.
Doubt is another huge confidence killer for young athletes. You want to make sure your kids are not holding onto doubts that destroy confidence, such as “I’m not fast enough to be a starter.” Help kids reframe doubts into statements of confidence.
